'Everybody Rise'

‘Everybody Rise’

39 x 60cm

Acrylic paint, pastel and pencil in Canvas.

Being home is sometimes a way to hide from looking up at the guiding sky, shrinking ourselves from the world.

With messy hair, dishes piling and left over dinners we sometimes want to escape our own life

This artwork is about those standing ovations to yourself...the ones that beg you to RISE even if your voice shakes .It's hard, requires support and takes time. It also does this beautiful thing of inviting others to do the same just by taking the brave step to first do it yourself.

This painting is titled after the Amy Shark song - ‘Everybody Rise’

This artwork is part of the ‘BEING HOME’ series of work.

These artworks reflect the year we all learnt a little more about what it was like to ‘be home’

Our home should be our sanctuary, where we feel our most authentic and safe.

For me personally, having left what was the family home with my daughters and our animals and setting one foot in front of the other relocating and rebuilding our sense of home.

In these paintings, I aimed to capture my own experience of the greater sense of ‘home’

Aussie birds of our backyard, Aussie music, house plants and the warm comforting tea I consume copiously - Just a few of the things that make a home my home and just a few of the things I captured in this series of paintings.

May these artworks invite you to take a closer look at your relationship with your home.
