‘Rushing Back’

39 x 60cm

Acrylic paint, Pastels and ink on canvas.

Memories are just layers of special moments.

They are powerful and sometimes all we have left... what once was an everyday occurrence becomes a treasured thing we welcome back into our thoughts as often as we can.

When my Dad started showing signs of Dementia, memories are often all I had to bring him back... especially music memories.

I treasured those memories then as much as I do now.

Memories swirl around our hearts and minds when we least expect them... while making a cuppa, hanging the washing or pulling weeds, they re-visit us like a gentle reminder rushing back of what was.

Memories of those we love, of homes we grew up in, childhood to adulthood to now... always growing and always collecting more memories.

This painting is titled after the Flume + Vera Blue song - Rushing Back

This artwork is part of the ‘BEING HOME’ collection of work.

These artworks reflect the year we all learnt a little more about what it was like to ‘be home’

Our home should be our sanctuary, where we feel our most authentic and safe.

For me personally, having left what was the family home with my daughters and our animals and setting one foot in front of the other relocating and rebuilding our sense of home.

In these paintings, I aimed to capture my own experience of the greater sense of ‘home’

Aussie birds of our backyard, Aussie music, house plants and the warm comforting tea I consume copiously - Just a few of the things that make a home my home and just a few of the things I captured in this series of paintings.

May these artworks invite you to take a closer look at your relationship with your home.
