Rituals are essential!

What are the rituals you do that keep you in your best state?

The reality is we all have rituals we just don’t realise they are rituals.

A ritual is a ceremony or action performed in a customary way. Your family might have a Saturday night ritual of eating a big spaghetti dinner and then taking a long walk to the ice cream shop.

As an adjective, ritual means “conforming to religious rites,” which are the sacred, customary ways of celebrating a religion or culture. Different communities have different ritual practices, like meditation in Buddhism, or baptism in Christianity. We also call the ceremony itself a ritual. Although it comes from religious ceremonies, ritual can also be used for any time-honored tradition, like a grand final football game, or Mardi Gras, or Saturday morning pancake breakfast.

I am a woman of many rituals… for all different times of the day, month, year and for different purposes.

For example, each morning, usually around 6.30am… You will find me in my studio, alone (maybe a hound or three!) my hot coffee, whatever music I feel drawn to that day and my pens and watercolours… I intuitively paint what ever i feel… for about 15 mins… sometimes longer if I don’t have a little one wake me up. I also do various other rituals before this, after this, before bed and lots in between.

I get asked often ‘What rituals do you do to keep you in a creative state’

As you may know, I am a wife to a full time, hard working husband and a mother of 2 young sassy and spirited young daughters and to a farm yard full of dogs, horses, calves and often many other creatures!

I run my business full time and my house too!

So for me… rituals differentiate a day filled with a flurry of busy moments to a day with purpose and soulful flow and organisation towards my greater goals.

Ask yourself today…

  • What rituals do you keep?
  • How do they serve you?
  • Are there any you would like to add?
  • Any you’d like to drop?

Here is a little vid about all this… (haha.. don’t you love the screen shot it grabbed of the video! Classic!)
